Information gained structure.
Fragments that once existed only as scattered files, pages, paths, and names could be organized into something searchable.
The answer could be brought forward.
You no longer needed to know where something was in order to find it.
Fragments became connected.
Inquiry found the path. Indexing gave information structure. Retrieval brought what mattered into view.
